Dialogue between Beccaria, Lombroso and Durkheim

Criminology, as every science, relies on facts and evidence. This paper is aimed at creating a dialogue between three criminologists of the nineteenth century Beccaria, Lombroso and Durkheim; in this discussion, they will explain their points of view and try to implement their theories into the reality at the end of the twentieth and beginning of the twenty first century.Their doctrines were a response to the processes of industrialization and the modernization in the 18th and 19th centuries; they aimed to promote cohesion and rationality in the society (Vold & Bernard, 1986, p. 101) Lombroso and Beccaria are sitting in a bright living room drinking tea and waiting for Durkheim to join them. While the criminologist has not come yet, they have time to talk and discuss each other’s works: Beccaria: Good afternoon, Mr. Lombroso. How are you doing?Lombroso: Good afternoon, Mr. Beccaria. Fine, thanks. What about you? Beccaria: I’m also fine, thank you. I should compliment yo u: recently I have read your work The Criminal Man (1911) and it appeared to be fantastic; I must admit that your point of view is rather interesting; but I have not understood the way you distinguish those three classes of criminals. Lombroso: I will gladly explain you that. Three types of criminals are: Atavist, Criminaloid and Insane criminal.Atavists are the criminals that reproduce the most ferocious characters of a wild animal or a primitive man, which explains that they are well recognized by large jaws, prominent superciliary arches, solitary lines in the palms, their orbits are of extremely large size, handle-shaped or sessile ears found in criminals, they are insensible to pain, have extremely acute sight, their bodies are covered with tattoos, excessive idleness, they love to participate in orgies and have the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to extinguish life in the victim but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh and drink its blood.   (Lombroso, 2006, p. 101) Becaria: Remember the case of the Op shop vandalism?I suppose that those teenagers, who have robbed this shop, may be classified as Atavists. Am I right? Lombroso: Exactly. Now let me explain you about two other types of criminals. Criminaloids are respectable persons, who carefully and thoroughly hide their criminal nature from society. They enjoy being respected and realizing that nobody knows about their other â€Å"me†. Criminaloids usually connect their occupation with law or they work for government, which makes it easier for them to hide their crimes.Besides, Criminaloids tend to commit misdemeanors rather than felonies. Insane criminals are mentally ill and not born to be criminals as Criminaloids or Atavists. Insane criminals commit crimes because â€Å"of an alteration of the brain, which completely upsets their moral nature† (Lombroso, 2006, pp. 14-15). I would say that to such category belong alcoholics, kleptomaniacs, child mol esters. Beccaria: I must admit that your theory is rather interesting. Knowing what type of criminal a detective faces, he will know how to punish him or her and where to search for an offender. Lombroso: Yes, but it is not as easy as it may seem.Nowadays, it is very popular among teenagers to have piercing and tattoos or behave aggressively; on the other hand, that does not mean that they are Atavists, it is only the way of expressing themselves. Beccaria: To my mind, Mr. Lombroso, your theory is not perfect. I am sure that there are no those, who were born to be criminals; we live in a free country, and every person is willing to choose what he or she wants; therefore, I am sure that if a person is a criminal, he or she has chosen to act so. I do not say that your approach is not right, but it cannot be implemented in life.Lombroso: I have read your book On Crimes and Punishment, where you have presented your own point of view on this issue. I know that you think that there are tw o characteristics to explain a human behavior: rationality and intelligence. However, I cannot understand how this is related to criminology. Beccaria: Let me explain you, my dear Lombroso. Let us take as an example the case, we have discussed before, the case of the Op shop vandalism. Those juveniles, who were committing this misdemeanor, thought that they would have some particular profit out of this robbery.â€Å"Every single individual is said to be not the servant but the master or manipulator of his/her fate. They are more possessed of free will rather than driven by spiritual phenomena† (Vold & Bernard, 1986, pp. 8-9). They were acting according to their free will; they wrongly thought that they will have some benefit after this act of vandalism. Lombroso: I cannot agree to you, my dear friend Beccaria. Some criminals, it does not matter whether they are Atavists, Criminaloids or Insane criminals, commit some crimes driven only by some particular obsession. For example, Atavists are born criminals, they have no other choice, but to commit crimes, it is their nature. I have talked to those criminals who belong to three different types, and those who are Atavists did not even confess that they have committed a crime. To my mind, criminals are not something extraordinary, they are a part of the modern society, and one cannot do anything with this. Those teenagers, as I have already mentioned, looked like Atavists, they act in a different way in order to feel special. How do you think, why do they have tattoos? Because this reflects their inner insensitivity to pain and their love to adornment (Lombroso, 2006, pp. 84). Durkheim: Good afternoon, my dear friends, Mr. Lombroso, Mr. Beccaria. I am sorry for being late. I suppose you have been discussing some interesting issues about modern criminology without me, have not you been? Lombroso: Yes, you are right, Mr. Durkheim. We were trying to explain each other our theories about criminals, and why they be come criminals. I was trying to prove Mr.Beccaria that there are three types of criminals, and that they are not extraordinary, their criminal nature is what they were born with; it is something like a mental disorder. Besides, I cannot agree to Mr. Beccaria that people commit crimes, because they want to do so. Durkheim: I see. I have read your book The Criminal Man, dear Lombroso. Your theory is rather interesting, although I think that in this very discussion you were too much aggressive with Mr. Beccaria. To my mind, criminal conduct is not something ordinary nowadays; I think that everything is determined by society.Social factors are highly significant and they influence the way a person acts. The point is not that a person has some internal or external reasons to commit a crime; sometimes, a person is driven by social factors. â€Å"A social fact is however normal in relation to a given social type at a given phase of its development, when it’s present in the average society of that species at the corresponding phase of its evolution† (Durkheim, 1982, p 65). Beccaria: I suppose that your theory is based predominantly on the way how society influences criminals and not vice versa. Durkheim: Yes, you are right.I suppose that all world’s societies  are of two types, according to how the labor is divided there: Organic societies and Mechanical societies. Organic societies are more complex; people, who live in such social groups, are more differently employed, they have more opportunities to find job. Mechanical societies, on the other hand, are primitive; they are isolated from other social classes and are relatively self-dependent. They have almost identical life conditions, and they do the same job, all they have one occupation. Lombroso: Do you want to say that a person is more likely to commit a crime in a Mechanical society? Durkheim: Yes, you are right, my dear Lombroso. For a mechanic society, crime is normal; besides, I think t hat there are no societies in the world, where people are not significantly different from the collective type (Durkheim, 1982, p. 70). Let me explain you. Imagine a perfect society, for example, a society of saints; it is a mechanical type of social group. If a person in an organic society, which is an ordinary society, the one we live in, commits a cruel crime, there will be a scandal; the same situation will be if somebody from a mechanical society, from a society of saints, does something wrong, which in an organic society will not be even noticed. If we define what crime is and such criminal behaviors subsists no more in a society, the new criminal behaviors will appear and replace the old ones. However, in organic societies, such quick changes, which appear because of the increasing division of labor, may lead to social rules confusion, and a person may feel lost in this particular society. All social norms break down, and it leads to the appearing of the Anomie. (Durkheim, p. 70) Lombroso: Anomie? Do you mean that it can be a kind of disorder of a society? Beccaria: I suppose, it is possible.Durkheim: You both are right. We are not ready for our society to be changed; it does not matter whether changes are high or low. If society is changed, people who live in this society begin to panic, which leads to the increasing quantity of suicides, people are used to stability. Instability means abnormality. Human appetites are excessive; if some of the goal is unreachable, a person may become depressed and unhappy; on the other hand, people can be limited only by one thing. Lombroso: I cannot agree with you that human appetites are excessive.Durkheim: They are, my dear friend Lombroso; the point is that sometimes those appetites are reduced by some social factors, for example, economic crisis. Economic crisis is a kind of disaster, which makes a person not only be unhappy or depressed, but also commit suicides. Thought I should admit that such anomie will be wor se in an abrupt growth or power and wealth. The original needs can no longer remain but they are not able in accustoming to the new condition. The richer situation will always stimulate the appetites and make them more exigent and impatient of control.  (Durkheim, 1997, pp. 246-247).Do you remember the case of three teenagers, who robbed the Op shop? Beccaria: Yes, we have also used this case as an example explaining our theories. Durkheim: That is good. Those three teenagers have committed the crime because of the process of modernization; the society is changing, and teenagers have an unstable state of mind, which makes it more possible that they commit an offence. This act of vandalism is only their way to show how frustrated they are; how frustrated people in our society are because of coming changes.Beccaria: What about punishment for these crimes? Durkheim: First of all, we should understand that in a mechanical society, law is far more oppressive, while in an organic societ y, laws are to restitute. In mechanical societies, people are bound to be punished for violating the law, whereas in organic societies, punishments are meant to restore a normal functioning of the society. Lombroso: Those three teenagers have committed a crime, and they should be penalized; besides they are Atavists, which means that they were born to be criminals.Durkheim: I agree to you that they have violated the law and should receive a penalty. Nevertheless, their punishment should be fair and effective. The role of judges is only to determine guilt, whereas the role of legislators is to determine crimes and punishment. Besides, I think that it is the extent of damage that should determine the seriousness of an offence. Sometimes, the intention itself may cause bad results. Besides, before those boys were punished, nobody said anything about the purpose of those juveniles. The punishment for those teenagers should not be too severe; it will be ridiculous if those juveniles are s entenced to death or life imprisonment (Durkheim, p. 357). One more essential problem is that people suppose that a criminal should be punished as fast as possible; they think it is more effectively. Finally, it is better to forestall a crime than to penalize a perpetrator. My theory is that a crime itself is a disease, an illness; therefore, the punishment should be compensation. What I want to say is that in order to be a relevant compensation, a punishment should fulfill its role. â€Å"If crime is not pathological, the object of punishment cannot be to cure it. † (Durkheim, pp. 72-75) Lombroso: Your ideas are remarkable to a considerable degree, my dear friend. I suppose they will be useful not only for our modern society, but also for future generations. Beccaria: I think that all the ideas we have heard today will be useful for future criminologists. Thank you, my dear friends, for such a pleasant discussion.

African American Literature Essay

African American writing is outstandingly interesting, and very informative. All African American writers observe cultural dealing in related and diverse understandings. The three stories that I decided to talk about in this task is â€Å"To my old Master† by Jourdon Anderson, â€Å"My White Folks Treated us Good† by Marriah Hines, and â€Å"If we must die† by Claude McKay. In these stories they observed prejudice, discrimination, and inclusive behaviors throughout the years. The writers open the reader’s eyes to things that were going on in each writer’s life. We will see that each writer was going through the same thing being an African American in America. â€Å"My White Folks treated us good† by Marriah Hines (p. 32). She talked about how her master took care of them by nourishing, the way he dressed them and how he did not hold them back from them developing. The women were right when she said it was exploitation of former slaves. She specified â€Å"Some unfortunate individuals practically have nothing to eat. Why, the way their owners treated them was disgraceful treated them like felines and canines† (Hines, p.32). Hines made remarks about how her master did not permit them to work on Sundays because it was a day for rest. Hines made it clear how nice it was to work for the master that she worked for. She was treated with respect she was not beaten, raped or injured by her master. She told the readers the different between her master and other masters, how others so him as an African American lover. Her master was a religious person went to church and always encourage the slaves to go to church also but did not care if they did not. Even when the slaves were set free the slaves wanted to stay. â€Å"Most of us stayed right there and raised our own crops. † (p. 34). She concluded the way she was able to survive was because of her master. When the slaves became free Hines master gave them cows and mules in order to be successful running their own farms. She was free but she remained loyal to her master and his family until he died and the family moved away. In the story â€Å"To my old Master† by Jourdon Anderson, this is a letter in return t previous correspondence f his old master. The master want Anderson and his family to come back and work for him, is this master being weak, because the slaves did all the work nad things not getting done. The reader can see how the master mistreats the slaves. Anderson states, â€Å"Although you shot at me twice before I left you, I did not want to hear of your being hurt, and I am glad you still living†. (p. 15). Anderson continues to have a discussion on how he and his family are doing well after slavery how their new life is just that new. He tells the master how his kids are getting an education, and how well he is doing making money. One of things that Anderson was afraid of if he went back to work for the old master and that was would he be treated like the last time. The reader knows that Anderson wife Mandy is against going back because she does not believe that things will not change. I think Anderson did not feel commutable going back either because of what he said â€Å"We have concluded to test your sincerity by asking you to send us our wages for the time we served you† (p. 16). How Anderson seen it this was a step toward healing the broken working relationship between him and his master. What Anderson wanted was to be paid back for all the work that he put in. He served his master for 32 years and his wife served for 20 years. Anderson continues to discuss how the master mistreated women and how he was afraid of bring his daughter back in to that environment. Anderson stated â€Å"I would stay here and starve and die, if it comes to that then to have my girl bought to shame by violence and wickedness of their master†. (p. 16). Anderson was harboring about going back but I think he knew he could not go back to his old master. By doing that it was a step back and not a move forward. â€Å"If we must die† this poem is by Claude McKay. This was a poem about how African Americans people were horribly treated by White Americans. This poem discuss about how African Americans stood up for themselves, if it took physical or even if it cost their life. McKay stated â€Å"though far be more numerous than let us show us courageous. Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack, pressed to the wall, dying but fighting back† (p. 378). This statement is a strong statement. The author was trying to tell the African American men that even when things don’t look good and it don’t look like a way out just keep fighting. In the poem â€Å"If we must die† McKay states â€Å"If we must die, let it not be like a hog, hunted and penned in an inglorious spot† (p. 378). Even today we as African Americans still find ourselves fighting to be part of America. The problems that ascend with African Americans are being used just because of the color of our skins. The event with Trayvon Martin the young 17 year old boy shot down because of the way he dressed and the way the young man looked. To this day we are still dealing with racism and it seems like America will always have to deal with racism. Civilization still has not come as far as they would like to have faith in. America has taken its chances to change and to make a harmony with every American. As we have read these stories from three different writers they all have something in common and that was that they were dealing with the same problem. All three writers was part of that culture that was oppressed and left to be defeated. But as one of the writers said when things are bad and we keep getting beat up just keep fighting and we will progress through.

Human Rights Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Human Rights Law - Essay Example These are; civil and political rights; and economic, social and cultural rights. With regard to civil and political rights, every human being is protected from abuse of power by politicians who are known to pursue their own interests and thereby overlooking the common interests of the public. These rights include, right to life, right to vote and freedom of association1. Concerning the economic, social and cultural rights, every human being has a right to live a decent life. In addition to this, every person is entitled to the essential needs necessary for the sake of survival of every human being. These rights include, right to work as well as right to proper health. With reference to the discussion question given, this paper will discuss how the margin of appreciation operates with regards to human rights and whether the supervision provided by the court was adequate. This paper will also demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the main concepts, principles and rules of human rights law. It will also analyze how human rights protect the rights of every single human being in the society regardless of their gender, ethnicity and status. The term ‘margin of appreciation’ is a concept that has been adopted by the European Court of Human Rights when it comes to considering whether a member state of the European Convention on Human Rights has infringe the convention in one way or the other. This margin of appreciation allows courts to take into consequence the idea that the Convention will be deduced differently in the different member states. This is the cases when it comes to article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights which states that every person has a freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This includes the right to change religion alone or as a community and he/she can either do it privately or publicly. It also continues to say that the freedom to manifest one’s religion or beliefs shall be subject to such limi tations as are prescribed by the law in the interest of public safety. In the case of Open Door and Dublin Well Woman vs. Ireland (1992) 15 EHRR, the European Court of Human Rights upheld the Ireland Supreme Court’s injunction that restrained counseling agents from providing information facilities abroad to pregnant women because it violated Article 10 of the Convention for the protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The injunction specifically interfered with two non profit organizations, Open Door Counseling Ltd. and Dublin Well Woman Centre Ltd that provided pregnancy related information to pregnant women. None of the two organizations upheld or encouraged abortion in any way. In addition to that the court further upheld Ireland’s restriction that interfered with the freedom of the women to access information. The injunction had a unbalanced impact in that in prohibited counseling regardless of age, health or circumstances of the pregnant women, this wa s because Ireland has a legitimate interest in protecting the life of the unborn. It was also noted by the court, that terminating of these pregnancies at later stages without adequate counseling posed a health risk to these women. The margin of appreciation doctrine in the jurisprudence of articles 8 to 11 involves qualified rights which are not absolute and have associated limitations that are expressed within the right itself. The first paragraph of each article states the right, while the second allows the State to breach its negative

The Portrayal of Judaism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

The Portrayal of Judaism - Essay Example Nevertheless the Greek culture had a great influence on the religious beliefs of the Jews. Due to the massive armies of Ptolemy and Seleucids, the Jews of Judea always remained subordinate to them and hence their powerful cultures had a great impact on the Jews and slowly they were forced to imbibe some of their concepts which were forced upon them. The Jews faithfully believed in life after death, stellar immortality and the immortality of ones soul after death. Prior to the Hellenistic period, the concept of afterlife the Jews had was a dark existence they referred to as â€Å"Sheol†. As it states in psalm 6 - â€Å"Turn, O Lord, save my life...For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who can give you praise?†. (Psalm 6: 4-5) But the modern Jews believed in Both Heaven and Hell. They believed that after death God would judge the actions of a person – by rewarding the good and punishing the evil. The Daily Express of London written on 24th of March, 1933 carried these headlines –â€Å" "Judea Declares War on Germany - Jews of All the World Unite - Boycott of German Goods - Mass Demonstrations." The Express also said that Germany was â€Å"now confronted with an international boycott of its trade, its finances, and its industry†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦In London, New York, Paris, and Warsaw, Jewish businessmen are united to go on an economic crusade.† (The Daily Express, 1933) This could be described as the first fatal turn of events towards the war. â€Å"The war against Germany will be waged by all Jewish communities, conferences, congresses... by every individual Jew. Thereby the war against Germany will ideologically enliven and promote our interests, which require that Germany be wholly destroyed.† (Natscha Retsch, 1933) Another primary factor that played a pivotal role in the war was the desire to set up a National Socialist ideology in Germany. As was written in Journal of Palestine Studies ("The Secret Contacts: Zionism and Nazi Germany, 1933-1941";

Cross Culture Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Cross Culture Management - Essay Example The nature of the Indian culture comprises of people who believe in sharing love with one another yet fall short on the count of being good to them all the same. What this means is the fact that the Indians are very sensitive within their judgments and hence could lead to a number of consequences in the long run for their own domains (Henderson, 2002). The culture of India is a mixture of the Hindu and Muslim religions since Hindus are in majority while Muslims are also in a sizable proportion. India is famous for its culture manifestations through films, music, cricket and so on. These have essentially bolstered the basis of India as a country all over the world, and people know that India is one nation where one can expect color and excitement as the people like to live their lives to the maximum. The culture of India has many different forms since this is one country whose population is more than 1 and a half billion, making it the second most populous country in the world after C hina. India serves a huge population and hence its culture is manifested in a number of different ways and means. The culture of India is such that the people derive pleasure from its varied manifestations and representations. The celebrities form an essential part of the Indian culture and this is easily witnessed on the television, in the movies and on the outdoors. What is interesting to note is the fact that India boasts of a population that absolutely cherishes the idea of dance and music (Cohen, 2000). The people believe it to be a part of their everyday lives, and hence the reason that th

People and Organization - Coursework Example Quality standards can help assure that company’s staff will have the skills to meet the diverse needs of all the emerging trends in the market. Standards regarding total group size and the production level ratio will have a direct bearing on the quality of the products. Programs can encourage and support staff competence by having: (1) a comprehensive orientation about the programs philosophy and goals, policies, expectations and responsibilities, special needs of individual junior staff, and health and safety procedures; and (2) a plan for on-going training and professional development that includes a wide range of topics such as curriculum, legislation and regulations, development of constructive partnerships with other members in the company, and knowledge of how to access community resources for their families in the program Para-professional staffs help them to build rapport with the community very quickly and they could be co-coordinating the entire activities of the company in that area. They look at these staff as members as effective catalyst, which have deep insight into the community in the question, as well as trust and acceptance. in some research, the outsiders find it very difficult as they are required to climb steep learning curves and go through a very long process of gaining local acceptance, which can be helped or hindered by existing cultural prejudices. A plan for systematic recruitment of a diverse company’s staff is critical to assuring the availability of quality personnel. Personnel managerial of a company program administrators need to develop clearly written job descriptions that reflect the programs inclusion philosophy and list specific responsibilities and expectations for each role. Education and training requirements should be clearly defined and serve as basic criteria for employment. However, it is important that the recruitment plan is flexible.

Sulfur recovery processes Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Sulfur recovery processes - Essay Example gas treatment system, where the effluent gases that remain from the purification process are used to oxidize sulfur into sulfur dioxide, instead of being released to the atmosphere to cause pollution. Most significant is that this process yields high quality sulfur, making it a good source of this valuable chemical (Kohl & Nielsen, 1997). However, the air pollution controls that have been put in place have made the Claus process even more expensive, since some installations that prevent air pollution have to be made, despite the fact that they may not be economical at all. The problem of Claus Process is added to, by the fact that it is unable to fully convert hydrogen sulfide into elemental sulfur, due to some equilibrium limitations. Therefore, no matter how well the emission of sulfur compound is controlled, the process ends-up releasing relatively high quantities of the air pollutant than is actually acceptable (Kohl, 1997). Thus, most of the times, the process requires to be supplemented with specific processes meant to remove the sulfur residue, which ensures that any excess sulfur emission from the process is cleaned-up. Claus process occurs in two forms, referred to as the straight-through process and the split-flow process. The processes are differentiated by the fact that, while in the straight-through process gas is fed through the reaction furnace, it is fed directly into the major catalytic reactor through bypassing the furnace, in the split-flow process (Kohl & Nielsen, 1997). The choice of the process to be used between these two sulfur purification processes depends on the content of hydrogen sulfide in the gas to be purified, and whether the gas contains hydrocarbons. If the gas to be purified contains hydrocarbons, then, the straight-through process is opted for, while the split-flow process is applied where the gas does not contain large quantities of hydrocarbons (Kohl, 1997). There are some fundamental aspects of the Claus process that should

The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurty Essay Example for Free

The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurty Essay The Last Picture Show is a story of isolation and dysfunction. Death is also a prevailing theme – death of a town, of friendships, of marriages and of friends. It is a story full of characters that can seem larger than life one moment and inconsequential the next moment. As different as they all appear to be, they all share traits in common and these are that they all feel separated from the rest of the world, they all seem to want more out of life than they currently have, and most feel an emptiness that loneliness and desire do not quite give full explanation or understanding of. The story covers a time span of one year in the town of small Thalia, Texas in the 1950s, a dusty and desolate place where everybody knows not only everybody else in town, but everybody knows everybody else’s business and secrets may not always be exposed, but also they are almost always known. Thalia is a place where the undersized population appears to have settled into their unsatisfactory existences even while they often make blundering mistakes in efforts to burst out of their current lives. McMurty’s story has an unusually large cast. Sonny Crawford, a high school senior and football player, is the story’s protagonist. An all-American genuinely nice young man full of deep sadness and quiet thoughts, Sonny lives in a rooming house with his best friend Dwayne, also a high school senior and football player. Duane, a main character, is a little rougher around the edges than Sonny. He is quicker to lose his temper and though he appears as unsatisfied as other characters he does not acknowledge his feelings as profoundly as others. Jacy Farrow is another main character. The beautiful rich girl of Thalia, Jacy is a young woman whose unhappiness with her life, her family, and her fear of the future feeds the fuel of her wild side and unleashes her inhibitions.   The town of Thalia itself is also main character and an absolutely vital part of the story. Thalia, which in the beginning of the story is an old town clinging to life with its unchanging reliability, undergoes metamorphosis’s which parallel and oppose the lives of the characters within it. As the story progresses The Last Picture Show highlights Thalia’s own slow death with the changes it must face. There are many lesser characters, which the story relies on to bring it depth and reinforce and are intricate to the themes of McMurty’s tale. These additional characters also allow the author to show very personal aspects of the main characters as they intermingle with each other. The story centers on these three young adults as they search for something beyond their own existence. The reader follows them through their ordinary lives as they date, dream, and push against internal and external barriers. The story exposes these characters weaknesses as they journey through monotonous days of loneliness where they end up betraying each other and themselves to varying degrees. The story also shows human strength in continuing on during the bleakest of times. Family dysfunction is a constant theme of this story. Sonny’s mother is dead and his relationship with is father is strained and shallow. His real family is Sam, a local businessman who runs the pool hall that is Sonny’s second home, and a handicapped boy, Billy, with no family of his own. Sonny lives in a rooming house with his best friend while his father lives in a hotel in town. Sonny does not like his own girlfriend and he covets his best friend’s girl. Without planning, Sonny because the lover of his coaches’ wife. The coach is hinted to be a closet homosexual with a mean streak a mile wide. Ruth, his wife, has almost given up of finding any happiness in life. Sonny feels sorry for Ruth and their relationship develops into more than Sonny can handle. Duane has no family and his father figure is a callous roughneck, Abilene, who sleeps with Duane’s girlfriend and his boss’s wife who happens to also be the love of his best friends’ life. Jacy is showered with material items from her family but is neglected by her parents emotionally and is filled with unfeeling and despondent advise from her mother. Jacy uses her body to get what she wants and uses people with as little thought as well. Her mother is an unsatisfied woman that cheats on her husband whose focus in life is on making money in a town on its last legs. The family dysfunction is critical to the story because it emphasizes the frailty of the characters and explains the needs they face as well as the choices they make. The town and the characters are supposed to inspired by the real life experiences of the author. How close to accurate portrayals The Last Picture Show is to his reality is unknown to this reader, but McMurty was able to create a life within his pages, which felt like it could have been real. He created visual images that really give off one of the main themes of the story, which is isolation. The town is isolated and seem as far removed from the rest of the world even though it is only a short distance to the much larger Fort Worth. Most of the characters are isolated because the dysfunction of their family situations does not easily lead them to trust others or openly show their true feelings. The characters are isolated too because as much as they want change, especially the younger characters, they are fearful of as well. There are some humorous moments in the story and these brief moments provide necessary alleviation of the overall melancholy, but the most memorable moments in the story are the poignant ones. One instance is when the boys return from Mexico, thrilled to be able to boast about their great adventure, but even more excited to be back in Thalia. They were grateful then, for the same things that often despised, the sameness of the town – they were happy then for the monotony of their Thalia. But that happiness was too brief because it is only minutes after their return that that they learn Sam has died during their time away. Another very moving section is at the very end of the book. After Billy’s death Sonny is numb and in a great deal of pain. Duane has left town, Sam is dead, he feels guilty about Billy, and he knows Jacy is not an option for him. Instinctually, Sonny heads to Ruth.   Her own pain is all too obvious as well. And in their pain they are able to comfort each other in a very touching way. The Last Picture Show is a cheerless story. There is no pat happy ending to be had for any of the characters. But, this book is one I would certainly recommend to others because it is an American story which carries a ring of truth to it; life is not always perfect, happy, or fulfilling and fairytale endings are not realist and would not have fit the tone of this story. The realist qualities and the powerfully accurate believability McMurty is able to generate enable the characters to come to life and produces profound feelings in the reader. The reader has become so involved in the lives of the characters that for those characters left at the end of the story the reader possesses intense hope for their future. When an author can bring into being these qualities they present a book incredibly worth reading.

Health and social care unit 7 Essay Example for Free

Health and social care unit 7 Essay Behaviourist approach, people believe that behaviour has been learned when we are younger and effects us later on in life e.g. if a child is too strictly potty trained then may effect them later on in life, and could have OCD Freud believed this. Classical conditioning is a theory discovered by Pavlov a Russian physiologist he worked on dogs and the digestive system before this study people believed that saliva was produced when food in in the mouth but then Pavlov found out it happened when the dog saw the food, possibly smelling the food. Pavlov used classical conditioning, his experiment was used with a dog. When the bell rings the dog doesnt do anything until after a while Pavlov gives the dog a treat every time the bell is rung so every time the bell rings now the dog will start salivating. This is how systematic desensitisation works, people associate a fear or a phobia by something they may of seen the say that an accident may have occurred causing the phobia e.g. if a man had a car accident and the car that crashed in to him was blue, the man may have a fear of blue now because of this (the dog learning that food comes with the ring of the bell) psychologists can help this by slowly showing the man that blue isnt scary by talking about the colour, seeing the word written on paper then seeing the colour and being comfortable with it, this is then cured of the fear this is called the Hierarchy of fear. This reaction cant be learned so he called this unconditioned response. This theory is what psychologists use to look at phobias, it shows that there is always something too set a behaviour off e.g. if something bad happened in your life and the most thing you remember is a poster on the wall or even a song you listened to that night, you could develop a phobia of that poster or song. The best way to help this is to find the cause and ask the patient to make a list of their worst fear about that phobia. This is where operant conditioning comes in, this is used to help peoples frame of mind, they use reinforcement techniques and create more appropriate behaviour. â€Å"Let’s say that at your house whenever someone flushes the toilet the shower gets crazy hot. After a while, you learn to jump out of the shower stream whenever you hear the toilet flush. A guest at your house won’t know that this happens, so she will jump out of the stream of water when it gets hot but not when the toilet flushes.† http://instruction.blackhawk.edu 20:39 18/12/12

The Ways I Learn English

The Ways I Learn English I was born in a small village outside Kodiang Town. It was a Malay village and most of the villager work as farmer. I was raised up in Malay family and my native language was Malay. My parent work as educator until today, but they had basic knowledge about English because their studies not an English Education. It was a long journey for me to learn English and until this moment I still continue to master this language. Beside English, I also got opportunities to learn Arabic language in a formal education. I also try to learn other foreign language by my own such as Japanese. Even my parents do not talk English at home, but they always encourage and support me to learn English. At the age of four years old my mother always bought many flash card, book with picture, puzzle and colouring book for me. After she getting back from school she will take one of the books and pronounced the word and ask me to repeat it. My mother also uses some English word to teach me about common object that we could found in my house. She will said that is cat, cat, a cat and I will repeated slowly cat. At the age of five years old, my mother had sent me to kindergarten. At there, I started my first formal lesson with English. The teacher teaches us about the letter A to Z, number 1 to 10, spelling and also pronunciations. When I enter primary school by the age of seven years old, I already used few English words in my daily conversation. The common words that I always used with my family and friends is baby, colour, bag, toilet and others. I got very motivated teacher at that time; he always inspired me to talk fluently in English. His name is Mr Zamarul Hisham Bin Kamaruddin. One of his teaching technique is he wanted us to have our own personal dictionaries and each student must bring that dictionaries every day to school. The use of that dictionary is for student to record every single new word that we learn in his classes or from other teacher. I think he did help student a lot in learning this language. During this time my mother also encourages me to read lots. My passion is always on science and technologies and mother know I love science very much. So, she bought me hundreds of English science book during my childhood. Book about fact on animals, plants, car, building and astronomy is among my favorite book at that time. Sometime I does not read at all because science term are difficult to understand for me at that age, but I really love to looking at those picture. Another effort of my mother to make me understand English well is by reading bedtime story books. Each month she will take me to Popular Bookstore to bought one bedtime story book. I always choose story book that have been write by Grid Blyton. The story that he write always have moral value and lesson for children to learn. Every night I spend some time with my mother to read those stories book. I always ask a lot to my mother about each story which such a great curiosity. Beside from reading books and formal lesson in school, another environment which also gives big influence for me to learn English is the exposure to technologies. In early ages, English cartoon program such as Sesame Street, Barney and Friends, Blues Clues and Mickey Mouse and Friends help me to communicate and understand English. Sesame Street encourages me to learn by demonstrating how people use various strategies, such as observing and predicting, to explore the world around me. Watching cartoon in English helps to hone my listening skills and learn how English is actually spoken. In addition through watching television, we learn with our desire and not by force like in classroom. So, I can learn a lot through watching television. I also can learn about general knowledge, science fact and recent news when I watch documentary on National Geographic and Discovery Channel. Another advantage to watching television is the learning of playing with words. English taught in schools can b e very rigid and sometimes the words are straight out of the book. Learning through television though is very good for pronunciation because the learner can actually hear the words spoken as they should be. Another innovation of technologies which help to develop my English skill was computer and mobile phone. As those gadget was invented and it become a trend for everybody to use it, I realized that it also help me to improve my vocabulary in English. All the term used in technologies was an English word and the term like make a call, sending massage, printout, copy and paste and others was widely use after the technologies was invented. I also learn a lot of new vocabulary through playing game on computer. Strategic game such as Red Alert 2, Call of Duty and Modern War used high vocabulary of word to explain the goal of each game. Sometimes I had to open up my dictionaries or seek the certain meaning of words from the internet to understand the task given in the game. If I cannot understand the task or the mission, I cannot compete and win the game. I like to write a narrative essay. This is because narrative or stories is an open essay which I can use my own imagination to write those essays. In public examination such as PMR and SPM, I always choose the narrative essay to answer. My Secondary School teacher, Madam Asliza Binti Zubir always encourages me to develop my fiction writing skill. She gives me a lot of fiction stories for me to get idea and inspiration to write a better first individual essay using my own imagination. My lifes principle for learning language also helps me to improve my English skill. I believe that to master the certain language desire is important for a person to explore and discover the language by himself. It does not need a formal education to learn other language. As long as there are desire and effort, we can learn what ever language we want through any medium of learning. I prove myself by learning Arabic language in school and learning Japanese through anime. I notice that, I easily memorize J apanese words when watching Japanese anime more than all the memorizing activities of Arabic class in school.

Davy Crockett :: essays research papers

Davy Crockett, the celebrated hero, warrior and backwoods statesman, was born August 17, 1786 in a small cabin on the banks of Nolichucky River, near the mouth of Limestone Creek, which today lies about three and a half miles off 11-E Highway near Limestone, Tennessee. David "Davy" Crockett was the fifth of nine children and the fifth son born to John and Rebecca Hawkins Crockett. The Crocketts were a self-sufficient, independent family. Davy Crockett stands for the Spirit of the American Frontier. As a young man he was a crafty Indian fighter and hunter. When he was forty-nine years old, he died a hero's death at the Alamo, helping Texas win independence from Mexico. For many years he was nationally known as a political representative of the frontier. John, Davy's father, moved to Greene County where Davy was born. While Davy was still in dresses, his father moved the family to Cove Creek in Greene County, Tennessee, where he built a mill in partnership with Thomas Galbreath. When Davy was eight years old, the mill was washed away with his home. After this disaster John Crockett removed his family to Jefferson County where he built and operated a log-cabin tavern on the Knoxville-Abingdon Road. (This cabin has been restored and is now located at Morristown, 30 miles Southwest of Greeneville.) The young Davy no doubt heard tales told by many a westbound traveler - tales which must have sparked his own desire for adventure in the great western territories. In his dealings with his father's customers, Davy must also have learned much about human nature and so refined his natural skills as a leader. While Davy lived there he spent four days at the school of Benjamin Kitchen. He had a fight with a boy at school and left home to escape a "licking" from his dad. He got a job helping to drive cattle to Virginia. In Virginia, he worked for farmers, wagoners and a hatmaker. After two and a half years, he returned home. Davy was now fifteen years old and approaching six feet in height. In those days a boy either worked for his father or turned over his pay if he worked for others. Upon promise of his freedom from this obligation, Davy worked a year for men to whom his father owed money. After working off these debts of his father's he continued with his last employer.

Violence on Film Essay -- Film Review, Hollywood, Gunfigther

The Western stands as one of the great genres of Hollywood cinema, as it possesses the ability to transcend both time and subject matter. Accordingly, the types of themes which this genres addresses, such as romanticism, and American heroism, can still be seen as viable commodities within modern-day storytelling. However, while The Western has focused on various topics throughout its cinematic history, what ultimately serves as the primary critique of the genre, is the exploration of role of violence and aggression within society (Lusted 16). Furthermore, at the source of this examination is the â€Å"Gunfighter† Western, which centers the focus of the genre to a more individualized and intimate perspective. Accordingly, films such as Henry King’s The Gunfighter (1950) and David Cronanberg’s A History Of Violence (2004) can be observed as examples of this focus. However, while both King and Cronenberg successfully explore the concepts of violence and aggression within their time periods, when examined in terms of their overall effectiveness in exploring the necessity, and ambiguity of these themes, Cronenberg’s willingness to explore the possibility of redemption, is what ultimately makes A History of Violence a more effective and provocative film. As Lusted notes, the Gunfighter Western was one of the first of the genre to be interested â€Å"in the process of change† (Lusted 210). Instead of focusing on such themes as the collective effort of westward expansion, like many of John Ford’s Westerns (Schatz 70-71), the Gunfighter â€Å"turns the genre and its hero inside out,† (Schatz 71) and takes a more introspective look at how violence can be found at the core of social order. To do this, the focus shifts away from films that play on the ... ...oral world. Instead, by allowing the character to live, Cronenberg not only suggests that there’s moral grounding within the use of violence, particularly in terms of its supposed protection towards the progression of society, but also provokes the question,â€Å"just who are we rooting for in this film?† (Beaty 87). Not only does the film force the audience to think about the effects of violence, but questions whether we as an audience, like Tom’s family, can accept violence as an ambiguous method of social order. Ultimately, it’s because of this complex, evocative nature, and the fact that the film questions not only the morality of the characters, but the audience itself, instead of enforcing morality on its audience like in The Gunfighter, that the film succeeds in demonstrating the full specter of violence and aggression, both on screen and in society.

For instance my particular job field is one of the more technical fields in the Navy so we generally have some differences in organizational structure than that of the sailor painting the ship painted. I am currently working at the Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) located at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. FACSFAC as a whole is a mechanistic organization divided into two departments and several divisions providing basic functions ranging from things as complex as air traffic control to maintaining the cleanliness of the building. There is a Department Head over each department with several Division Officers reporting directly to them. The Department Head in turn reports directly to the commanding officer on all matters related to their individual departments. The air traffic control division is further divided into three sections of controllers that report directly to the Radar Branch Chief who reports to the Division Officer. Professionally the sections are managed in a boundary-less, team-based structure although militarily they are still run as a mechanistic organization. In some of the less technical divisions there is only a mechanistic organiz ation. Although the Navy does not have a formal organizational network, its’ use of informal organizational networks are critical to its’ success. Many times during a military career the member will make friendships with other members in the same job field. As time goes on and the members transfer from one facility to another they are able to call on one another for solutions to problems they may come across. With the rise of the Internet these networks are being used in situations that in the past would have been impossible. There are basically four major types of boundaries affecting businesses today, the authority boundary, task boundary, political boundary and the identity boundary.

For instance, when my roommate was angry with me, I had an extremely strong time focusing o n anything else but the issue at hand. Consequently, I did horrible on the examination and the roommate dilemma was still not solved. communicating According to ESFP personalities, they do not like brush so they avoid talking about their feelings with others. This makes it rugged to communicate effectively with those around you and build credulous relationships. Therefore, one thing I need to rifle on is simply communicating and letting others around me agnise how and what I am feeling currently rather than holding my feelings inside. I found that doing so (holding emotions inside), is not healthy for your body and creates unneeded stress. dialogue alike goes beyond simply talking. Communication also requires everyone to take turns listening and discussing problems when PERSONALITY PAPER they are presented. Many times, I find myself struggling to have soul there to listen to what I have to say. like to my ESFP description, I am usually the listener in most situations and te nd to be rather open-minded about issues. Therefore, many times I press to find an individual that will listen to me and give me good advice. So, another communication issue I could work on is finding a special(a) individual that I can trust and voice my feelings with (possibly another ESFP). Temperament Characteristics Along with any personality there are both positives and negatives affiliated with both.Several characteristics I found to be positive about ESFP is that they are extremely flexible, diverse, and go with the flow exceptionally well. Usually, when plans are changed I tend to shrug it off and go onto the next task. Unlike most individuals, I do not dwell on what could have been bewildered of an opportunity, but instead think of the many opportunities that a wait. Another positive personality characteristic associated with ESFP is that they are generous and warm hearted. I absolutely love helping people in need and would do anything for anyone.I will drop whatever I am doing to come and help a friend or anyone in need no count what. My friends know they can always rely on me for anything whenever they have a problem (although sometimes they take wages of this trait). Along with the good characteristics, we know that there moldiness be some bad characteristics associated with ESFP. One impuissance related to ESFP is that they are frivolous and risky with money. I found this to be extremely true because I am always at the mall shop for clothes or going to delicious restaurants with friends. Therefore, not soon after I receive my payroll check from PERSONALITY PAPER Dairy Queen, it is almost only gone. I often have to count on others around me to make sure I do not spend my money frivolously. Lastly, ESFP individuals tend to disfavor reproval and take things extremely personally. When I first read this I was in awe. I thought it was crazy how accurate this personality test is because this describes me perfectly. Whenever anyone gives me criti cism (whether constructive or not) I am always deeply offended.I take it so personally and sometimes even become saddened because I always like to think I am doing everything perfectly. It is horrible that I think so negatively about myself sometimes because of my perfectionist attitudes. Many of these weaknesses listed are things that I could continue to work on individually on a daytime to day basis. Disposition Background When filling out the disposition paper handed to us in class, I was not aware of the quantity of dispositions we realise on a daily basis. No matter where we are or what our profession, we are constantly bombarded with dispositions of many kinds. It was interesting to become aware of the many dispositions we view on a daily basis and organism able to better recognize the better choices in each decision we make. For instance, go working at Dairy Queen I experienced many dispositions in which I later had to reflex upon while filling out the dispositions paper. It was interesting to see how this assignment changed the way I would have make a decision. If not for the assignment I would not have thought, How will this make the other person feel and will this provide the better outcome? Overall, being aware of these dispositions made me feel good about where I stand on issues nd made me think about the consequences of my actions. PERSONALITY PAPER all(a) in all this personality and dispositions assignment very helped me determine who I am as a person. Throughout reading many detailed personality descriptions I was able to ask myself if that trait was a common behavior of mine or if that described my personality accurately. In addition, this assignment also helped me anatomy out what areas of my personality I need to work on such as communication. All in all, this was a great learning experience and helped me get a greater understanding of what it is I savvy myself to be.

The characters from the movie Boyz N the Hood that I get out be referring to are Doughboy, policeman Coffey, and Shalika. The characters that I result be using from the book discolor license Fighters in Steel are George Kimbley, Curtis Strong, and Jonathan Comer. They all dealt with heaviness differently some apply it to their advantage, some race apply it to mischief others, some do something of themselves, and some did goose egg to make themselves better. In sour freedom Fighters in Steel, George Kimbley was the prototypic man that I read closely who stuck in my head while the whole time while indicant this book. His mother had taught him at a unfledged age by reflection and find how she dealt with the purity large number. She use charge as a form of post. If you could get the inexor able-and-blue ethnic music to practice you and hold arroganceed secrets among you, then that would go a long way back in the day.As a recent child George did not go that far in school because he incessantly view he was a brightly kid and could easy call up development after reading material it one time. George would go up to the eighth grade and start his life as a working man. He would play along with how the face cloth multitude who hard-boiled him distressing and make them feel uncomfortable. He would teach them a lesson by embarrassing them in front of their peers. He would show the white mass that he was unmoved(p) by their haggling and would immerse those feelings deep down until now if it appal he wouldnt show them that it was touch him.Teaching the white multitude that their lyric do not regard you is a great way to deal with the burdensomeness. George using trust as a way of dealing with the conquering came when he was working the ice wagon. He was working with a guy named tenners, and he would walk to the pots houses and if they had the bills he would leave the ice for them solely if they did not do the money he would take it and walk to the attached house. Well George would watch this and use this to his advantage. George would walk up to those houses that did not keep up the money and he would bring them the ice.One yield took place when he walked into a maams house with ice and she said, Well, the other man was in here he wouldnt leave the ice, because we didnt pass water the money. And I says, Well, I cant take it back. Oh, I know how hot it is and all, and if I let you dumbfound this ice and they find out, theyll fire me and I acceptt wish to be fired. Oh, I wont tell anybody and I would leave the ice (pg. 16-17). He would use this trust to show the white masses to not stamp him or any pitch lightlessnessness someone still because of their skin.He did this to show them that he is a care somebody and is a good person and entrust do out someone no matter what color their skin is. part working at the wonk he fought to get the drab man into the union and once that he got them into the union, he did not postulate them to get any favors. He simply treasured every man working thither to earn their way on their own merit. No hand-outs for anybody plainly for everyone to be brothers. George Kimbley did not take discrimination for African Americans, unless give them a hap to install what they could do and not judge or gauge down upon them because of the color of their skin. The second man that I read approximately was Curtis Strong. One word that can learn him is rebel. He was an outspoken man and he did not let any difficulty go ignored on his watch. Curtis said, I often wondered why fouls take so damn much of that before they rebel. I realize, though, that we had been erudite for untold number of years that you did fork out a place (pg. 89). He utilise his mou th to stir up the saturnine mans counterbalance whether it was against the Klu Klux Klan or a possible labor dissension for the church. Curtis was a very vocal man and was an involve man in anything that had to do with the postulate of the low man.Curtis Strong worked in the degree centigrade demonstrate during the war. It was a hot and insecure line of business to work in for any human solely he chose that gambol to wrench a attracter in the union. This typewrite of railway line was where the majority if not all the African Americans worked in. The foreboding(a)ened workers wiz by Strong, form the lookout man unify in 1943. Later on Curtis would be elected as the Griever and that was the man who would campaign for the workers if they matte they were organism do by unfairly or if in that respect was a problem in the workplace. utilise this job title, Strong would go on to contend for the melanise workers and more significantly for black lot nigh the wor ld.The way the broke down discrimination in the ascorbic acid put was by having wildcats. The nose candy give was the heart of the firebrand company because without the gust you cant cede steel. So if everyone would leave the black eye position which was the black workers, which would cause other split of the steel sub which was the white workers, to close down also because nonentity was in the blast instal to work. Curtis soundless power and that it took power to make change. be able to extradite that kind of power was quite the advantage for Strong as a Griever. He knew that the atomic number 6 plant was the key to the steel company and if he matte an detriment towards the black workers he would shut down Gary whole kit and boodle by these wildcats. Jonathan Comer was the last(a) person in the book that I popular opinion dealt with subjugation very well. Jonathan got a job at the hero sandwich as a chipper. He didnt care the job as a chipper and destinyed to get a raise. He apply as a victuals worker only if he was told that it was not a black mans job. Him signing that line to get the job make everyone angry because a black man had try to get another job besides the chipper.Management had ways of not allowing the blacks to go further up in the workforce. by and by existence denied the position, Comer talked to the overseer melter and he told Comer, He didnt requisite colored on his turn, Comer said. He said, You see, I harbourt been here that long, and I scram to make a name for myself, and I dont want you messing up. one-sided people middling dont mean keenly full comparable white people do in this type of work. maybe someday they give, save I moreover dont want you on my bag (pg. 125). afterward that communion made him passing angry, he versed that he could use the grievance physical process to religious service me fight his battles.Later on he utilise for another spot that had subject up and he had got ten. more or less of his life he exhausted as a union activist, outlay most of his eld battling job segregation. He fought oppression though grievances and held the grievers job for thirteen years. From the movie Boyz N the Hood, the prototypical person I will talk somewhat that shows the use of oppression is Doughboy and how he dealt with it. Doughboy was raise by yet his mother and she never seemed to want to pay him any mind. He still seemed analogous an release to her. Doughboy had a smell brother named Ricky and their mother of all time showed more favoritism towards Ricky. Not having a man around the house and having his mother talk down on him Doughboy never was able to make anything of himself. He always was acquiring into disoblige and exhibit nobody respect. You see throughout the movie how he oppresses women and other people. His respect for women is very low and in the movie Doughboy refers to women as hoes or bitches. When he is released from prison, there is a scene where all the guys at the caller bucket along to walkover the nutriment before the women at the party could get a find oneself to make their plates maiden and shoved the women out of the way.Trey sees that and he tries to get Doughboy to catch on that women need to be shown more respect. As soon as Doughboys sees what Tre is doing, he says Hos gotta eat too. and then Shalika says Who you callin a ho, I aint no ho. Doughboy says Oops, Im sorry, bitch. Doughboys mother then smacks him for the natural remark. That was his frontmost run in with his uncollectible manners towards women. Another concomitantal when you see the respect for women thrown out the window is when doughboy was rivalry with Shalika again while they were all academic term in his car on Crenshaw.Shalika says, Who you callin a ho, I aint no ho and why is it every time you talk about a womanish you gotta say bitch, ho, or hootchie? Doughboy says, take in thats what you are. Not having a fa ther around to be a post mannequin want Tre had with baseless shows with how Doughboy interacts with anybody throughout the movie. You even see how he negotiation to women when they walk down the street and he is essay to bewilder sex with them and he shouts derisive things towards them. Doughboy in my opinion has accepted the oppression from his mother, that he is zip fastener but a waste of distance and he does nothing to better himself his spotless life. incumbent Coffey shows how he has dealt with oppression by oppressing others around him give care Tre or how he talks about African Americans throughout the movie. He comes in and you signify that since he is an African American he will want to be try to servicing his own people out and make his community better. entirely after tearing house was low-pitched into and he snap fastener at him, he calls the police. They take over an minute to get there and when they show up ships officer Coffey has a anchor ring in his hand and just casually walks up wish nothing happened. He uses nigger to describe the kind of people that are walkway amongst the streets. enraged doesnt akin it and they exchange a gibe words about how enraged should have shot him because it would have been one less nigger on the streets. infuriated sends Tre back inside and the officer Coffey says, Something rail at? dotty says, Something wrong? Yeah. Its just too blighted you dont know what it is Brother. I estimate that while suppuration up ships officer Coffey experience some gloomy things and he has held that against the black people in the movie.Another part in the movie where Officer Coffey shows off a deeper meaning behind his hate towards the puppyish black tribe is when he pulls over Tre and Ricky after the conflict that happened when everyone is on Crenshaw respite out. When he pulls Tre over and has both of them get out of the car, Tre says, I didnt do nothing. Officer Coffey says, You gues s you tough? past pulls a bomber on Tre, Officer Coffey says, affright now, aint you? I same that. Thats why I took this job. I hate little motherfuckers desire you. teensy-weensy niggers, you aint shitI could blow your head off with this smith Wesson and you couldnt do shit. pretend you tough? What set you from? enumerate uniform one of them Crenshaw mafia motherfuckers. When he says that to Tre it showed me that there is a deeper meaning to why he ask that much wangle over someone. His childishness could have been a exuberant one and he is using his new power of being a police officer to take it out on anyone who is in his way. The third person I will talk about is Shalika. Shalika is a black girl that is shown throughout the movie and Doughboy is always talk down to her.She is the only one that ever says anything to Doughboy about apothegm the mortifying things towards women. As I mentioned early in the Doughboy section, when they are get ready to eat Doughboy is trading her a ho then when she tells him that she isnt a ho, he calls her a bitch. She doesnt take kind to that talk towards her and she tries to defend herself. further like most women being talked to like that, they pretty much just sit back and take it because it has always been like that in their lives. Another incident came when they were in the car on Crenshaw and Doughboy was talking crowing about women again.Shalika is severe to stand up for herself throughout the movie but not much changed. In conclusion, oppression is dealt with in some(prenominal) another(prenominal) ways. more(prenominal) people from the book seemed like the succeeded through the oppression rather than the movie. The people from the book worked harder for what they had and cute to achieve. Not many people in the movie cute to actually do much with their lives but Tre and Ricky. reenforcement in an oppressive subject field is hard and some may not handle it well but I think that the sinis ter license Fighters in Steel showed the trounce ways on how to deal with oppression.
